Kinisi Festival of Sound, 2015 & 2016
The festival brings together folk musicians from the Balkans, electronic and experimental musicians from southeastern and western Europe, and international sound artists. Kinisi hosts site-specific performances, jams, the exchange of techniques and ideas, and collaborative new compositional works. In 2015 Kinisi was held in various venues around the island of Santorini, with a series of events in the village of Pyrgos. In 2016 Kinisi was held at Venetsanos Winery.
Unbound Atlas is a album by Mazi Collective featuring recordings (by Alyssa Moxley) and images and texts (by Ramona Stout) documenting our journeys through the Balkans while searching for musicians for the Kinisi Festival.
The CD includes 12 tracks of soundscapes and music recorded on location in villages and cities in Albania, Kosovo, and FYROM in 2014. A pull-out color booklet of writing and photography detailing the journey accompanies the album. All CD orders come with a high quality download through Bandcamp.
Unbound Atlas was reviewed in the Wire Magazine.
The album was on the Wire’s 2015 “Picks of the Year” list.
